Tel Aviv’s Unami Celebrates 27 Years With Special Izakaya Menu at 27 Shekels

The story · English

Unami, one of Tel Aviv’s pioneering Japanese restaurants, is celebrating its 27th anniversary with a special izakaya menu priced at 27 shekels per dish throughout July. Under the leadership of Chef Roy Sofer, who has over 25 years of culinary experience and a passion for Japanese cuisine, the restaurant has undergone recent renewal to stay competitive with newer Japanese eateries in the city.

The anniversary menu features a variety of small plates, including a refreshing salmon tartare with wasabi sorbet, shrimp nigiri glazed with soy koji, and a daring Inari special layered with white fish, salmon roe, and chili cream. While some dishes like the crispy yuba with mushroom spread received mixed reviews, the overall selection was praised for creativity and precision.

Alongside the special menu, Unami continues to offer its regular dishes, such as the comforting agedashi tofu and a standout Bluefin tuna tartare served with ponzu foam and nori seaweed sauce. The wasabi combo dish, highlighting Israeli wasabi from the Nish brand, was noted as a particularly enjoyable highlight. The meal concluded with a chocolate nama dessert paired with miso ice cream and Japanese whiskey sauce.

Despite its long tenure, Unami remains relevant and appealing, especially for lovers of authentic Asian cuisine. The limited-time anniversary menu provides an excellent opportunity to experience refined Japanese bites at an affordable price. The restaurant is located at 18 HaArba’a Street in Tel Aviv and serves the special menu daily from 5 p.m. throughout July.
