Donald J. Trump International Airport Officially Opens in Palm Beach with New Name and Logo

The Palm Beach International Airport in Florida officially changed its name to Donald J. Trump International Airport on Thursday. This renaming honors the 45th President of the United States and was approved by the Federal Aviation Administration following a special state law signed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in March. The law transferred authority over naming major airports in Florida to the state and designated the Palm Beach airport to bear Trump's name.

The airport's new name is displayed in golden letters alongside the presidential logo. The official airport code has also been updated, and air traffic controllers across the U.S. have been notified. Updates to signage, uniforms, logos, and marketing materials will be implemented gradually, while the airport's website address remains temporarily unchanged. The renaming project is estimated to cost around $5 million, with half funded by the state budget and the remainder from airport revenues or special grants.

This marks the first time a U.S. airport has been named after a sitting president, sparking mixed reactions. Supporters view it as a fitting tribute, especially given the airport's proximity to Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate. Critics argue the decision is politically motivated, wasteful, and undermines local county authority, leading to two legal challenges. Despite the name change, the airport's operations and ownership by Palm Beach County remain unchanged. New directional signs have been installed, the updated logo is public, and reservation and aviation mapping systems are being revised accordingly.
