Palm Beach Airport Renamed After Sitting President Donald Trump for First Time in US History

The Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) in Florida has officially been renamed the "President Donald J. Trump International Airport," marking the first time in U.S. history that a major commercial airport is named after a sitting president. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced the change, which follows legislation signed earlier this year by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. The airport is located near Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, and he frequently travels through it.

As part of the renaming, the FAA airport code will change from PBI to DJT, with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) code update scheduled for August 18. The airport has stated that signage, branding, and public materials will be updated gradually. The total cost of the renaming is estimated at $5.5 million, with half funded by the state of Florida.

Eric Trump, the president's son, noted that the family’s private plane, nicknamed "Trump Force One," was the first to land at the newly renamed airport. He expressed pride in seeing the initials "DJT" on his boarding pass, reflecting his frequent use of the airport. The airport also acknowledged that passengers might have mixed reactions to the name change but thanked the public for their ongoing support during the transition period.
