Dutch Football Scandal: Fraudsters Impersonate Mo Allach to Scam Players and Agents

A major fraud case has shaken Dutch football after scammers impersonated Mo Allach, the professional manager of FC Groningen and former Maccabi Haifa official, to defraud players and agents across Europe. The con artists contacted agents posing as Allach, offering lucrative contracts and then requesting urgent digital payments for "medical tests, flights, and travel expenses."

FC Groningen and Allach have filed an official police complaint for identity theft, suspecting a well-organized criminal gang behind the sophisticated scam. The fraud was uncovered when an English player, convinced he had signed with Groningen, flew to Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport only to find no club representatives waiting. The club’s chief scout, Arno de Jong, described the player’s distress and noted the player had even declined genuine offers elsewhere to join Groningen.

Allach explained the scam’s giveaway was that the offered sums were net amounts, whereas football contracts always use gross figures. FC Groningen CEO Frank van Mosselveld confirmed that other Dutch clubs, including Roda JC and PEC Zwolle, were also targeted last season with similar identity theft schemes. The Dutch Football Association and public prosecutors are now investigating to dismantle the gang, which threatens the careers of young players and the integrity of Dutch football.
