Tel Aviv's Museum Plaza Officially Renamed Hostages Square to Honor Kidnapping Victims

Tel Aviv's Museum Plaza has been officially renamed "Hostages Square," a site that became a national symbol following the events of October 7, 2026. The decision, adopted by the city's naming committee, aims to formally recognize the plaza where Israelis gathered to pray, protest, and demand the return of kidnapped citizens. The municipality also established a dedicated committee to determine how to commemorate the public and social struggle that unfolded there, ensuring the memory of the hostages' plight remains integral to the city's and nation's history.

Tel Aviv-Yafo Mayor Ron Huldai emphasized the plaza's significance, stating, "Today we give the Museum Plaza its official name - Hostages Square. Here we shouted, cried, hoped, and rejoiced when the hostages returned home. Sometimes hundreds of thousands gathered here, sometimes just a few dozen, but the unity remained constant. People from all parts of Israeli society came to stand with families, fight for strangers, and never give up until their return." He added that the square symbolizes both the immense pain of the worst disaster Israel has faced since its founding and the solidarity, mutual responsibility, and deep faith that no one should be left behind.

The renaming and commemorative efforts reflect a commitment to preserving the memory of the October 7 tragedy and the collective response it inspired. Hostages Square will serve as a lasting testament to the human and civic spirit that emerged from this national crisis.
