Russian Submarine-Hunting Plane Threatens British Aircraft Carrier Near Norway
A tense and dangerous encounter unfolded recently in the Norwegian Sea between a Russian maritime patrol aircraft and the British Royal Navy. According to official statements from the UK Ministry of Defence, a Russian Tu-142 maritime reconnaissance plane, known as a "submarine hunter," approached the British aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales in a provocative and unsafe manner. This incident occurred while the British strike group was operating off Norway's northwest coast, a region of high strategic importance.
The Russian plane conducted low-altitude maneuvers over the carrier and deployed approximately ten sonar buoys into the sea.
