Public Water Corporation in Northern Israel Removes Palestinian Flag from Website After Outcry

Residents in northern Israel were shocked to find the Palestinian flag displayed on the official website of the public water corporation "Al-Ain" alongside the Arabic language option. The corporation provides water services to thousands in the region, including many Israeli citizens, some of whom have served in the Israel Defense Forces for decades. The flag appeared in the language selection menu on the site used for paying water bills, sparking controversy and complaints from users.

While Israeli law does not explicitly ban the Palestinian flag, the police often remove it in public spaces when deemed necessary. Critics questioned how a publicly funded municipal body could officially use the Palestinian flag to represent the Arabic language, arguing this creates an inappropriate political association between Arabic speakers and the Palestinian Authority, despite Arabic being the native language of many Israeli citizens.

The water corporation responded that the flag did not appear on its official payment website but rather on an external customer service platform called SendWise, used for communication via WhatsApp. They stated the issue was addressed immediately and the flags were removed. The corporation emphasized it provides professional, equal, and respectful service to all residents and denied any political intent behind the flag's appearance.
