A 25-year-old Australian man named Lachie Perm suffered burns over approximately 75% of his body following an explosion caused by a robot vacuum cleaner in his kitchen. The incident occurred at his home in Brabham, northeast of Perth, Western Australia. Emergency responders rushed Perm to Fiona Stanley Hospital in Perth, where he remains in critical condition under sedation after undergoing several emergency surgeries.

Investigators believe the fire started due to a malfunction in the robot vacuum, though the specific model involved has not been disclosed. The explosion also caused damage to the living room and shattered windows. Perm's mother, Fiona Perm, described the event as a tragic explosion that has upended the family's life, noting that the house is currently uninhabitable.

Fiona plans to travel from Queensland to Perth to be by her son's side and revealed that Lachie, his fiancée Lucky, and their housemates have been left homeless. She emphasized the long road ahead involving multiple surgeries, extensive medical treatment, rehabilitation, and months of recovery. To support the family with living expenses, housing, and medical costs, Fiona launched a GoFundMe campaign which raised over $27,000 within the first 48 hours. She expressed gratitude for the community's support during this difficult time.
