The story · English

Opposition leader Yair Lapid criticized the Israeli government's recent decision to defy the Supreme Court ruling during a Yesha Atid faction meeting. He stated that the government's aim is to hold elections without judicial oversight, warning that in a system without courts, the government could postpone elections citing security events. Lapid highlighted the broader impact of this decision on all Israeli citizens. He also accused the government of portraying Supreme Court Judge Salberg as a new enemy because, despite being conservative, religious, and a settler, Salberg's role as chair of the Central Elections Committee gives him the authority to prevent election fraud. Lapid implied that this is why the government views Salberg as a significant obstacle to their plans.
