Egypt Unveils 'Octagon,' World's Largest Defense Headquarters in New Capital

Egypt officially inaugurated its new Strategic Command Headquarters, dubbed the "Octagon," located in the heart of its new administrative capital east of Cairo. The massive architectural complex is now considered the largest defense ministry headquarters globally, designed to showcase the logistical and operational strength of the Egyptian military.

The opening ceremony featured a grand military display attended by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and senior military leaders. Unlike the American Pentagon, which has five sides, the Egyptian planners opted for an eight-sided design, hence the name "Octagon." This ambitious project is nearly eight times larger than the Pentagon and consists of eight external octagonal buildings representing the different branches of the armed forces, connected by two central structures.

The new facility is intended to consolidate all of Egypt's defense, communication, and strategic command systems under one roof, utilizing the most advanced technologies available internationally. This move reflects Egypt's efforts to modernize and centralize its military command infrastructure in its new capital city.
