Serena Williams, the legendary 44-year-old American tennis player, faces uncertainty over her Wimbledon comeback after sustaining a knee injury during her recent singles match. Williams, who has won 23 Grand Slam titles, was competing at Wimbledon for the first time in 1,462 days when she injured her right knee in the first set against Australian player Maiya Joint. Despite medical advice to stop playing, Williams continued through a grueling three-set match but ultimately lost and suffered significant swelling in her knee.

Following the match, Wimbledon medical staff recommended she use crutches to leave the court, but Williams declined and walked off unaided. Due to her condition, she was excused from post-match media obligations. Her agent, Jill Smoller, confirmed Williams has a knee strain but remains determined to return to the court.

The injury casts doubt on a highly anticipated doubles reunion with her sister Venus Williams, scheduled for Friday. The sisters, who have won six Wimbledon doubles titles together, planned this match as the highlight of Serena's comeback. If Serena's knee swelling does not improve in the next two days, their joint appearance at the All England Club may be canceled at the last minute.
