Venus and Serena Williams receive Wimbledon doubles wild card
Venus Williams, 45, and Serena Williams, 44, have been awarded a wild card and will compete in the Wimbledon doubles tournament, 26 years after their first doubles title there. The announcement was made on Tuesday.
Venus has been playing at Wimbledon in recent years, while Serena is returning to the tournament after four years away. The sisters were among the greatest players in women’s tennis, winning 30 Grand Slam singles titles combined, 14 doubles titles, and three Olympic gold medals.
In recent years, Venus has received several wild cards for tournaments, but she has not won a singles match since 2021. Serena has not played since 2022, though she has been working toward a comeback and recently played with Karolina Muchova in Berlin.
The Williams sisters will now try to add another title in doubles, 10 years after their last Wimbledon doubles triumph in 2016.
