Venus and Serena Williams receive Wimbledon doubles wildcard at ages 45 and 44
Venus and Serena Williams have been handed a wildcard into Wimbledon’s women’s doubles draw, allowing them to compete together 26 years after their first doubles title. The announcement came on Tuesday, and the pair are set to return to the tournament as two of the greatest players in women’s tennis history.
Venus, 45, has continued to play at Wimbledon in recent years, while Serena, 44, is coming back to the event after a four-year absence. Serena has not played since 2022, although she has been working on a comeback and recently appeared with Karolina Muchova in the Berlin tournament.
Together, the Williams sisters won 30 Grand Slam singles titles and 14 doubles titles, and they also captured three Olympic gold medals. In recent years, Venus has received several wildcards, but she has not advanced past the first round in singles since 2021.
The sisters will try to do the unlikely again, ten years after their last doubles triumph at Wimbledon in 2016.
