Jewish Agency Launches Plan to Build 1,000 New Homes in Gaza Envelope Region After 1,000 Days Since October 7 Attacks

Nearly 1,000 days have passed since the devastating October 7 attacks, when militants invaded kibbutzim and moshavim in Israel's Gaza envelope, aiming to destroy Jewish life and settlement in the area. The deep wounds and pain remain fresh in the hearts of Israelis and Jews worldwide. In response, the Jewish Agency, together with the Ministry of Aliyah and Integration and local authorities, is spearheading a national project to build 1,000 new homes in the Gaza envelope region, known as Hevel Tikva, as a powerful Zionist answer to the attacks.

This initiative is not a routine real estate development but a mission to strengthen and expand Jewish settlement in the area, reinforcing the vision of Israel’s founding leaders like David Ben-Gurion, who emphasized pioneering settlement as a foundation for national resilience. The project involves close cooperation among the Jewish Agency, government ministries, regional councils, the Kibbutz Movement, and local leaders, with Amigour company managing planning and construction to ensure thriving new communities.

The Jewish diaspora plays a vital role in this effort, providing financial support through organizations such as Keren Hayesod, North American Jewish Federations, and the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Foundation. Hundreds of Jewish community leaders from around the world continue to visit Israel, demonstrating solidarity and participating in cornerstone ceremonies, including at Kibbutz Ein Hashlosha, where construction has already begun.

The Jewish Agency’s CEO emphasized that despite the ongoing pain and longing, the choice is to build anew, root by root, home by home, continuing the story of the Jewish people in their land. This project symbolizes the balance of memory and hope, pain and growth, as the community rebuilds and strengthens its future in the Gaza envelope region.
