Noah Simmons, a young weather forecaster at KFSM-TV in Arkansas, was reporting earlier this week on active tornado warnings when thick smoke suddenly began to spread through the studio, but he did not hesitate for a moment and, between coughs, continued updating viewers.

A short time earlier, the meteorologist noticed that one of the studio light fixtures had begun flickering, and immediately afterward he smelled smoke. Within seconds, it became clear that the fixture was on fire. The producer quickly put out the blaze with a fire extinguisher, but the smoke and extinguisher fumes that spread through the studio continued to make things difficult for Simmons.

“We had a fire in the studio, but we got two tornado warnings, so we have to keep tracking this and covering it live,” Simmons told viewers as he bravely continued his broadcast.

Later, after the fire was brought under control, the meteorologist wrote on Facebook: “It was a little hard to breathe, so I covered myself with my shirt. But when you’re tracking two tornado warnings, I felt there was a need to keep going.”

Social media was abuzz following the unusual footage. Many praised the meteorologist, who risked his life to report on the tornado warning. “He’s a legend. He has hero energy,” one user wrote, and another added, “He should get hazard pay.”
