The story · English

Dubai is advancing one of the world's most ambitious infrastructure projects with the Al Maktoum International Airport set to open its first phase to passengers by 2032. This massive development aims to make it the largest airport globally, capable of handling up to 260 million passengers annually and becoming the region's primary aviation hub. The airport will feature five parallel runways, two enormous terminals, over 430 aircraft parking stands, and an automated shuttle system to facilitate swift transfers within the airport and connect to Dubai's transportation network.

The Dubai government confirmed last month that construction is progressing on schedule, with a budget of 16 billion dirhams allocated to the project. Work that began over a year ago has focused on infrastructure, runway construction, and laying the foundations for terminals and departure gates. Upcoming phases will include building the western terminal, a fourth aircraft wing, the automated shuttle system, and advanced baggage handling technologies in preparation for the airport's operation.

Khalifa Al-Zaffin, chairman of Dubai Aviation City Corporation, emphasized that Al Maktoum Airport is more than just an expansion of aviation infrastructure. He described it as a global integrated platform set to redefine the future of travel and logistics by offering a smart, seamless, and customer-focused experience driven by advanced technology, full automation, and smooth connectivity between airport systems and transport networks.
