Rubio Says Fighting Cannot End While Hezbollah Keeps Launching Rockets

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke publicly on Tuesday evening for the first time about the agreement between the United States and Iran, nearly a week after the memorandum was signed. In his remarks, he attacked Hezbollah and said it must stop its attacks on IDF forces in southern Lebanon.

"You cannot end the conflicts in the region if Iran's proxies are firing rockets," Rubio said. He also said the United States would deal directly with the Lebanese government on the issue, adding that "this is an issue that will come up at the right time."

Rubio also addressed rising tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, amid conflicting reports from Iran and the United States about whether the shipping lane had been opened or closed. Asked whether Iran could charge fees for passage through the strait, he replied that "no country is allowed to do that in international waters. That is existing law."
