Oscar-winning director Spike Lee, a well-known New York Knicks fan, was involved in a heated altercation with a spectator prior to a baseball game between the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox. The incident occurred at Yankee Stadium's premium hospitality area, where Lee, 69, was seen interacting with fans and inviting people to join him. The situation escalated when a fan approached Lee during a selfie session and allegedly asked him to say "Fuck Palestine." This request reportedly angered Lee, leading to a verbal confrontation captured on video, where he is heard shouting at the individual while staff intervened to separate them.
Another witness claimed the same fan was filming Lee while he was eating and began questioning him about his stance on Palestine. In the circulated video, Lee can be heard asking, "Why did you come to me?" with another person in the area pointing at the fan and stating, "You have to leave."
This is not the first time Lee has drawn attention for his views on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Previously, he attended an NBA All-Star game wearing attire inspired by the Palestinian flag. At the time, he explained on Instagram that the clothing symbolized his concern for Palestinian children and civilians and his belief in human dignity for all, clarifying it was not intended as hostility towards Jewish people or support for violence.
Lee has not yet commented on the recent incident. Following the game, he posted a photo with his daughter, Satchel, from the stands, expressing enjoyment of the evening.
