Israeli Settlers Attack Palestinian Village, Injuring Border Police

The story · English

Over 100 Israeli settlers attacked the Palestinian village of Jallud, near Nablus, on Monday night, blocking roads, burning tires, and throwing stones at security forces. The settlers also set fire to Palestinian homes, vehicles, and property. Three Border Police officers sustained minor injuries during clashes with security forces as they attempted to disperse the rioters. A security forces vehicle was also damaged.

The violence occurred as a Palestinian family was attempting to return to their home in the village. The family had previously been forced to leave their home due to nationalist crimes targeting them, but were unable to return due to the ongoing violence. Israeli security forces used crowd-dispersal methods to break up the gathering and arrested two suspects, who were handed over to the Judea and Samaria District Police for investigation. Forensic investigators are collecting evidence at the scene.

The police reported that in cooperation with the IDF and Shin Bet, a suspect from Jerusalem was arrested, and two vehicles suspected of involvement were seized. One of the vehicles contained masks and a club. Two additional suspects, minors from northern Israel and the Benjamin region, were transferred for questioning.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the riots, stating that the "handful of rioters does not represent the law-abiding settler public in Judea and Samaria." He added that they "cause immense damage and hinder our forces in carrying out their mission." Netanyahu expressed support for the IDF and Border Police officers and called on law enforcement to prosecute the rioters to the fullest extent of the law.

President Isaac Herzog also denounced the acts, calling the violence "extremely serious" and stating it must be dealt with "with the utmost severity." He described the incident as a "moral stain" and a blow to the rule of law and fundamental values. Herzog noted that the violence, occurring during the Sukkot holiday, contradicts Jewish values.
