ראש הממשלה בנימין נתניהו תקף בחריפות את ראש השב"כ לשעבר, רונן בר, בטענה כי בר ידע על סכנה ביטחונית משמעותית ולא עדכן אותו. התקיפה מגיעה על רקע פרסומים לפיהם בר ידע על הכנות לטבח 7 באוקטובר ולא פעל למנוע אותו. נתניהו טען כי בר ידע על "סכנה אמיתית" ולא עדכן אותו, וכי הוא פעל בניגוד להוראותיו. ראש הממשלה הוסיף כי הוא מתכוון לחקור את התנהלותו של בר. הפרסומים עליהם מתבסס נתניהו עוררו סערה ציבורית וביקורת רבה על התנהלות מערכת הביטחון.
