במקביל לתיעודים, בכיר לשעבר ב-CIA טוען כי המצוקה הכלכלית והקשיים האישיים של המהגרים האפגנים הופכים אותם למטרה נוחה לגיוס מודיעיני. לטענתו, המוסד הישראלי מנצל את המצב ומפעיל אותם למשימות שונות בתוך איראן.

הגל הנרחב של המהגרים האפגנים מגיע על רקע המצב הכלכלי והביטחוני הקשה באפגניסטן לאחר השתלטות הטליבאן.
