Opposition Leaders Criticize Defense Minister's Gaza Evacuation Threat

Opposition figures Yair Golan and Avigdor Lieberman have sharply criticized remarks made by Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz. Katz stated that "given intentions and intelligence, if an Israeli soldier or citizen is abducted, the entire city of Gaza will be evacuated."

Golan, chairman of the Democratic Party, took to social media platform X to express his dismay. He wrote, "Three years after October 7th, and the minister of evasion is begging Hamas not to dare abduct another soldier." This statement implies a perceived weakness in the government's security posture.

Avigdor Lieberman, chairman of Yisrael Beiteinu, echoed Golan's sentiments, calling Katz's statement "another joke in the collection of the government's empty statements." Lieberman further argued that if, three years after the October 7th massacre, there is still intelligence about Hamas's intentions to abduct Israelis, it signifies a "bankruptcy" of the current government.

Both opposition leaders view Katz's remarks as indicative of the government's failure to provide adequate security and its reliance on empty threats rather than effective action.
