בכיר בארגון הפתח חשף כי ישראל וחמאס היו קרובים להשגת הסכם בנוגע לעסקת חטופים לפני פרוץ מלחמת "חרבות ברזל" ב-7 באוקטובר. לדבריו, המגעים התנהלו בתיווך, אך לא פירט מי היו המתווכים.
