הראשון לציון, הרב יצחק יוסף, קרא לקיים אלפי אירועי הילולא לזכר אביו, מרן הרב עובדיה יוסף זצ"ל, ברחבי הארץ. זאת, בתגובה להחלטת בג"ץ והיועצת המשפטית לממשלה לבטל את אירוע ההילולא המרכזי בבנייני האומה. הסיבה לביטול היא החשש מתעמולת בחירות סמוך למועד הבחירות.

הרב יוסף הביע התנגדות נחרצת להחלטה, ואמר כי אין צורך להתחשב בה. הוא קרא לארגון אירועים רבים בכל רחבי הארץ, תוך התעלמות מההחלטה השיפוטית. הסערה סביב הנצחת זכרו של הרב עובדיה יוסף הגיעה לשיא חדש בעקבות ההחלטה והגיבוי שקיבלה מבית המשפט.
