לקראת יום הכיפורים 2026, 12 ערים בישראל הצטרפו ליוזמה לאיסור על מנהג הכפרות באמצעות תרנגולים חיים. עמותת "תנו לחיות לחיות" פנתה לראשי הרשויות זו השנה השנייה, ובעקבות פנייתה, תל מונד, ירוחם, מבשרת ציון ויבנה אסרו השנה על קיום המנהג. ערים אלו מצטרפות לקריית ביאליק וראשון לציון, שחידשו את התחייבותן מהשנה שעברה, ולכפר סבא, רעננה, תל אביב-יפו, באר שבע, אשקלון, רמלה ופתח תקווה, שאוסרות על המנהג מזה שנים.

הנוהל של השירותים הווטרינריים מאפשר לרשויות מקומיות לאסור על קיום מנהג הכפרות בתרנגולים חיים בשטחן. קיום המנהג, גם אם אינו כולל שחיטה, מותנה בקבלת היתר מהמחלקה הווטרינרית המקומית.
