הנהלת משטרת ישראל החליטה לקצר את משך קורס ההכשרה לקצינים משבעה וחצי חודשים לחמישה חודשים, זאת בשל מחסור חמור בשוטרים ובקצינים. בנוסף, הוחלט להקל על תנאי ההשכלה הנדרשים מהחניכים. מעתה, לא תידרש תעודת תואר אקדמי בסיום הקורס כדי להפוך לקצין, אלא הדרישה תועבר לקריטריון לקידום בתפקיד. התוכנית טרם נכנסה לתוקף וממתינה לאישורו של השר לביטחון לאומי, איתמר בן גביר. בשנים האחרונות כבר הופחתו דרישות המשטרה בנוגע לציוני מבחנים פסיכוטכניים ורמת ידיעת השפה העברית בעת גיוס שוטרים.
