שר החוץ הטורקי, הקאן פידאן, נפגש בדמשק עם מקבילו הסורי, אסעד חסן א-שיבאני, ותקף בחריפות את מדיניות ישראל בסוריה. פידאן האשים את ישראל בערעור היציבות במדינה ובתמיכה עקיפה בארגון דאעש. האשמות אלו נאמרו זמן קצר לאחר שפידאן הצהיר בריאיון לרויטרס כי טורקיה אינה מעוניינת בעימות עם ישראל בסוריה, אך הזהיר כי התקיפות הישראליות פוגעות ביכולתה של דמשק להתמודד עם אויביה ועם ארגון הטרור דאעש. "אנחנו לא רוצים לראות עימות עם ישראל בסוריה, משום שסוריה שייכת לסורים", הדגיש פידאן.
