מקורות פלסטיניים דיווחו כי עשרות אלפי פלסטינים התפללו את תפילת יום שישי במסגד אל-אקצא, למרות הגבלות שהטילה ישראל על כניסת מתפללים. כוחות ישראליים נפרסו בכבדות באזור העיר העתיקה ובסביבת המסגד.

על פי הדיווחים, מתפללים הגיעו למקום משעות הבוקר המוקדמות מאזורים שונים. כוחות הביטחון הישראליים הגבירו את נוכחותם והציבו מחסומים בכניסות לעיר העתיקה ובסמוך למסגד. בנוסף, כוחות משטרה ישראליים נכנסו לחצרות המסגד לפני התפילה.

כוחות הביטחון הישראליים עיכבו הגעת פלסטינים למסגד באמצעות הצבת מחסומים צבאיים ובדיקת תעודות זהות, מה שמנע מכמה מהם להגיע ולהתפלל במקום.
