Border Police Officers Neutralize Terrorist Attempting Stabbing Attack at Damascus Gate

Border Police officers shot and killed a terrorist who attempted to carry out a stabbing attack near Damascus Gate in Jerusalem's Old City early Tuesday morning. The assailant, riding a motorcycle, arrived at the scene around 3:45 AM and, after parking, approached several civilians with a knife. The civilians managed to escape and alerted police.

Responding Border Police officers, who were in the vicinity, observed the fleeing civilians and advanced toward the area. Simultaneously, they received reports of the stabbing attempt. Upon encountering the terrorist, he produced a knife and lunged at one of the officers, who evaded the attack. Other Border Police officers then opened fire, neutralizing the assailant.

A 30-year-old man sustained minor injuries during the incident and was transported to Shaare Zedek Medical Center. The attacker, identified as a 33-year-old resident of East Jerusalem, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Commander of the Border Police, Superintendent General Amir Cohen, praised the officers' actions, stating, "A terrorist who sets out to murder civilians or harm our fighters must know one thing: Border Police fighters will pursue him, charge him, and eliminate the threat." He added that the officers acted with "courage, determination, professionalism, and values," emphasizing their role in protecting Israeli citizens.

Jerusalem District Commander Superintendent Asher Ben-Artzi also visited the scene and commended the officers for their swift and decisive response. Security forces are maintaining a heightened operational presence in the Old City, following a recent increase in attempted attacks in the area.
