זוג חרדי, לייקי ורובי, ממתינים בכיליון עיניים לילד שימלא את ביתם, אך תהליך האימוץ מתעכב. הזוג, המתגורר בקהילה החרדית, חווה תסכול עמוק מההמתנה הארוכה, כפי שמשתקף ברגעי המצוקה שלהם, בהם הם מבטאים את כמיהתם לילד שיצטרף למשפחתם וימלא את החלל. הם מדמיינים את הילד כותב לסבא וסבתא כרטיסי ברכה בכתב יד ילדותי, כמיהה לחיים משפחתיים מלאים ושמחים. המצב מדגיש את הקשיים והתסכולים הכרוכים בתהליכי אימוץ ארוכים, במיוחד בקהילות בהן הציפייה להרחבת המשפחה היא משמעותית.
