Rabbi Avraham Salim Shares Mexico Trip Insights with Students

Rabbi Avraham Salim, head of the Ma'or HaTorah yeshiva, recently addressed his students about his recent trip to Mexico and Panama, undertaken to support the "Olam HaTorah" fund. During the gathering, which celebrated the completion of the Bava Kama tractate by dozens of yeshiva students, Rabbi Salim shared his impressions of the spiritual awakening and thirst for Torah study he witnessed abroad.

He noted a significant increase in yeshiva students and kollel scholars dedicating themselves to full-time Torah study in these communities, even in places without prior extensive religious frameworks. Rabbi Salim highlighted the presence of many alumni from Israeli yeshivas who have become foundational figures in building local Jewish communities overseas.

During his travels, Rabbi Salim observed a deep respect for Torah scholars among global Jewry. Beyond substantial financial contributions to support yeshivas, he was particularly struck by a recurring personal request from donors: the desire for their children to become Torah scholars and for their daughters to marry Torah scholars.

Rabbi Salim emphasized that true honor for the Torah lies in diligent study and effort. "The constant fervor for Torah within the yeshiva, studying Torah with persistence, effort, and diligence, is the true honor of the Torah," he stated. He praised the students who went beyond their regular study schedules, reviewing material during breaks, to achieve a comprehensive understanding and completion of the tractate.

The event also included remarks from Rabbi Efraim Zev Garboz, Rabbi Yaakov Sharabani, and Rabbi Yisrael Tofik, all rabbis at the yeshiva. Rabbi Alexander Hochberg, chairman of the Yeshiva Students Department at the "Dirshu" organization, which oversees the "Talmud Ha'bado" testing program, also attended.
