Luggage with Israeli Security Tags Found at Cyprus Flea Market

Suitcases bearing flight tags and Israeli security screening barcodes from Ben Gurion Airport have been discovered for sale at a weekly flea market in Paphos, Cyprus. The find was reported by Liri Burak-Shavit, who frequently travels between Israel and Cyprus and noticed the unusual collection, recalling recent images she documented of luggage piles at Ben Gurion Airport.

Burak-Shavit, known as a social activist, told the "Walla" news site that the sight immediately reminded her of photos she took in July and August, which showed congestion and disruptions at the airport, with numerous unattended suitcases inside and outside the terminal.

She observed that the suitcases at the market had tags and markings indicating they had passed through Israeli security screening at Ben Gurion Airport. These markings made them stand out, as they "didn't look like regular flea market stock." Initially, she thought they might be El Al airline equipment, but later realized the markings primarily indicated passage through Ben Gurion's security checks.

Despite the unusual appearance and the photos, there is currently no official indication that these are suitcases lost during the disruptions at Ben Gurion Airport. It remains unknown who they belonged to or how they reached Cyprus. Burak-Shavit told "Walla" that "someone might still recognize their suitcase there," but she stressed that she does not have a full explanation for the situation.
