Record 50,000 Worshippers Attend Selichot Prayers at Western Wall

A record-breaking crowd of over 50,000 worshippers gathered at the Western Wall plaza in Jerusalem on Thursday night for the fourth major Selichot prayer event since the beginning of the Hebrew month of Elul. The plaza was completely filled with worshippers from across Israel, who came to seek forgiveness and mercy ahead of the High Holy Days.

Since the start of Elul, more than 350,000 people have participated in various Selichot prayer sessions at the Western Wall, marking a significant increase compared to previous years. This surge is evident not only during the organized central events but also nightly, as thousands independently come to recite Selichot prayers at the holy site. Due to the large turnout on Thursday, hundreds of worshippers were unable to enter the plaza.

During the event, Mordechai (Soli) Eliav, CEO of the Western Wall Heritage Foundation, led heartfelt prayers alongside the crowd, calling for the safety and success of IDF soldiers and security forces, unity among the people, and peace and security for Israel. The Foundation is preparing for continued large attendance throughout the Days of Awe and Selichot period.

This spiritual awakening among the public, especially the younger generation, has been noted as a remarkable trend, with many flocking nightly to the remnants of the Holy Temple for prayer and reflection.
