Israeli Democrats Party Faces Backlash Over Anti-Israel Music in Arab Sector Campaign

מאת ישי פרידמן

The story · English

The Israeli political party 'The Democrats' has sparked controversy after releasing campaign videos targeting the Arab sector that feature anti-Israel music and messages. The videos, promoting party leader Yair Golan and Knesset member Gilad Kariv, include melodies associated with the Palestinian struggle and war songs. One notable example is a Syrian series tune linked to arms smuggling for Palestinians, which was recognized by former captive Rom Breslavsky. Breslavsky, who was held and tortured in Gaza, expressed shock that an Israeli Knesset member would use music favored by his captors.

In addition to the Syrian melody, Golan's videos also feature songs by Yemeni singer Ziad Al-Qadi, known for nationalist Palestinian war songs praising Islamic faith and advocating blood revenge under Sharia law. One of Al-Qadi's songs, "Dushka Al-Quds," calls for battle and glorifies death in combat, raising concerns about the messages the Democrats aim to convey to Arab voters. Despite the party's secular stance, the choice of such religious and militant songs has drawn criticism. The Democrats party did not respond to requests for comment on the issue.
