Likud Demands Action Against Democrats for Using IDF Uniforms in Campaign Video

Following the Central Elections Committee's decision to ban a Shas party campaign video featuring a person in IDF uniform, the Likud party has called for similar enforcement against the Democratic Party. The Democrats, led by Yair Golan, recently released a campaign video showing Golan alongside soldiers wearing IDF uniforms, a move that has not yet been challenged or removed. Likud's legal advisor, Ilan Bombach, sent a formal warning to Golan demanding the video's removal, threatening to file an urgent petition with the committee chairman, Judge Noam Solberg, if the video remains online by the next day.

This development comes after Judge Solberg's ruling earlier in August that the use of IDF soldier images, including those created with artificial intelligence, is prohibited in election campaigns. Likud accuses the political system of selective enforcement, noting that while Shas was forced to remove their video, other parties like the Democrats have not faced similar demands. The Likud party is now pushing to correct this perceived imbalance by ensuring all parties adhere to the same rules regarding the use of military imagery in political advertising.
