Man Charged with Attempted Murder After Stabbing in Beersheba Supermarket

The Southern District Prosecutor's Office has filed an attempted murder indictment against Maher Al-Gargawi, 20, from Segev Shalom, following a stabbing attack in a Beersheba supermarket. The incident, captured on security cameras, occurred in the early afternoon and involved Al-Gargawi and an accomplice attacking a young man from the Abu Tahe family amid a longstanding blood feud between the two families. The footage shows Al-Gargawi spotting the victim between store shelves, attacking him from behind, knocking him to the floor, and repeatedly stabbing him while he was defenseless.

Magen David Adom paramedics evacuated the victim to Soroka Medical Center. Beersheba police led the investigation, quickly arresting Al-Gargawi and seizing the vehicle used in the escape, which contained clothing matching that seen in the footage, including an orange vest. DNA evidence linked Al-Gargawi to the clothing, along with his ID card and vehicle license registered in his name. After recovering, the victim identified Al-Gargawi as his attacker and testified at the police station, where Al-Gargawi was also recognized during interrogation. Police are actively seeking the accomplice seen in the surveillance videos.

Beersheba Police Station Commander Deputy Chief Kfir Solomon emphasized the swift and professional investigation that led to the arrest and indictment. The prosecution also requested Al-Gargawi's detention until the end of legal proceedings, citing a serious concern that his release could escalate further violence in the ongoing family feud.
