Israeli Lawyer Arrested for Forging Documents to Let Disqualified Drivers Keep Driving

A 60-year-old lawyer from Tira was arrested on Sunday morning in central Israel on suspicion of systematically forging documents to allow drivers with revoked licenses to continue driving illegally. The arrest followed a lengthy undercover investigation by the Central District's Fraud and Cybercrime Unit, working alongside traffic police investigators.

The lawyer, who specializes in traffic law representation, allegedly created false documents that misled courts, police, and the licensing authority into believing that drivers had surrendered their licenses and served their suspension periods. In reality, these drivers continued to drive without restrictions, posing a significant road safety risk.

In recent weeks, investigators gathered evidence of this methodical forgery scheme involving drivers who had lost their licenses due to serious traffic offenses. The forged documents falsely indicated compliance with license suspensions, while the drivers remained on the roads.

Following the transition to the investigation's overt phase, police raided the suspect's home and office in Tira, seizing documents and computers potentially containing further evidence. The suspect is expected to be brought to court later for an extension of his detention as the probe continues. Authorities believe the case may involve a large number of drivers who received forged documents enabling illegal driving.
