El Al to Offer Free Starlink Internet on Flights Starting in 2027
El Al announced on Monday that it has signed an agreement with Starlink to install the company’s satellite internet service on its aircraft beginning in 2027. The airline said passengers will be able to use the onboard Wi,Fi at no charge.
The system uses Starlink’s low Earth orbit, or LEO, satellites to provide broadband connectivity in flight. El Al said the service will allow continuous internet access throughout the journey and support streaming, remote work and other digital services.
El Al CEO Lior Hevli called the move “a significant step forward,” saying it will let passengers stay connected in the air, watch live streaming content and continue working and communicating smoothly without interruptions. He added that the initiative reflects the airline’s commitment to a leading travel experience that meets international aviation standards.
The announcement also noted a possible downside, with some critics warning that full internet availability could worsen the onboard experience for some travelers. They said constant connectivity could encourage more voice calls through apps and create noise and disturbances in the cabin.
