Israeli Forces Arrest Brother of Dizengoff Terrorist Suspected of Planning Attack
Israeli special forces from the Duvdevan Unit arrested Maam Hazam in Jenin on Monday. Maam is the brother of Raad Hazam, who carried out the 2022 shooting attack on Dizengoff Street in Tel Aviv. According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Maam was planning an attack against Israeli civilians and security forces. The operation was conducted under the command of the Menashe Brigade and guided by the Shin Bet security service.
The IDF stated that Maam Hazam recently expressed intentions to carry out an attack following the killing of his father, Fathi Hazam, during an IDF operation in Jenin last week. Fathi Hazam was targeted by the 890th Paratroopers Battalion; during the arrest attempt, he allegedly tried to stab a soldier and was killed on the spot. Fathi had previously served in the Palestinian Authority’s General Security Service but became a prominent figure inciting against IDF activities in Jenin after his son Raad’s attack.
Raad Hazam perpetrated the April 2022 shooting on Dizengoff Street, which killed three Israelis, Tomer Mord, Itam Magini, both 27, and Barak Lofen, 35, and wounded six others. Raad fled the scene but was located near a mosque in Jaffa and killed after a firefight with security forces.
Additionally, the IDF reported thwarting another planned attack in the Menashe Brigade area. On Sunday, forces arrested another suspect near the village of Sanur, also suspected of planning an attack against Israeli civilians. Both detainees are under investigation by Israeli security agencies.
