IDF Soldier Foils Knife Attack in Jenin by Son of 2022 Tel Aviv Terrorist
An IDF paratrooper soldier in Jenin prevented a stabbing attack by a suspect identified as the son of the terrorist who carried out the deadly 2022 Tel Aviv attack. The incident occurred during a nighttime operation by the 890th Battalion of the Paratroopers Brigade, which was conducting searches and arrests of suspects wanted for Shin Bet investigations. When the soldier attempted to arrest the suspect, the man drew a knife and tried to stab him. Another soldier nearby noticed the attack and shot the assailant, neutralizing the threat.
The Israeli military praised the quick response that prevented injury to the arresting soldier. The IDF and Shin Bet are currently investigating the incident. The father of the attacker was responsible for a shooting attack on Dizengoff Street in Tel Aviv in 2022, which took place shortly before Passover. That attacker had entered Israel through a breach in the fence near Jenin, traveled to Umm al-Fahm by bus, and carried out the shooting with plans for a second attack later that evening. Following the 2022 attack, Israeli security forces launched a massive manhunt involving thousands of police, counterterrorism units, and intelligence operatives, eventually killing the terrorist after a gunfight in a Jaffa mosque.
This recent event highlights ongoing security challenges in the West Bank city of Jenin and the continued vigilance of Israeli forces in preventing terror attacks.
