Israeli Police Deploy Dozens to Secure Breslov Pilgrimage to Uman Amid Ukraine Conflict

Ahead of the Jewish New Year, tens of thousands of Breslov Hasidim are expected to travel to Uman, Ukraine, to visit the grave of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov. This year, approximately 45,000 pilgrims from around the world plan to attend, including about 35,000 Israeli citizens. Due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and the closure of its airspace, travelers must land in neighboring countries such as Romania, Moldova, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, and Bulgaria, then continue overland to Uman.

In response to the complex security and logistical challenges, the Israeli police are deploying an unprecedented delegation of over 40 officers stationed in Ukraine, Romania, and key border crossings. These officers will accompany the pilgrims, assist with translation and coordination with local authorities, and work to prevent any unusual incidents. The force size may increase if additional neighboring countries require support. Additionally, the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs will assign dozens of diplomats at airports and transit points to provide comprehensive assistance to travelers.

This enhanced security and logistical operation reflects the unique difficulties posed by the regional conflict and the large scale of the pilgrimage, ensuring the safety and smooth passage of Israeli pilgrims to Uman during this significant religious event.
