Rabbis Samuel Eliyahu and David Lau Affix Mezuzot at Amichai Shindler’s Restored Home in Kerem Shalom
Rabbis Samuel Eliyahu, Chief Rabbi of Safed, and former Chief Rabbi of Israel David Lau, participated in a mezuzah affixing ceremony at the newly renovated home of Amichai Shindler in the Kerem Shalom kibbutz. Shindler was critically wounded during the October 7 attacks and has since recovered and returned to live in his home after extensive repairs. The event took place on Sunday and was attended by Knesset members Limor Son Har-Melech and Michal Waldiger, as well as Alisaf Pershan, CEO of Alon Moreh institutions.
Shindler and his wife Avital began renovating their home a year ago after it was damaged during the massacre. They had been living temporarily at a kibbutz during the repairs. Avital expressed deep emotion about returning home, highlighting the community support they received and their determination to rebuild their lives despite the trauma. She emphasized their commitment to remain in Kerem Shalom, stating, "We believe only good will happen to us, and it was clear we would return."
Amichai Shindler described the return as a true victory over the enemy who sought to displace them. He said, "Coming back to the familiar home, kibbutz, and paths is a real triumph. Our return is a genuine response to the terror they hoped would destroy us. We are working to grow and thrive, and I hope the war ends decisively so the enemy understands they must never plan to harm us again."
