Prominent Baal Shem Tov Hasid Rabbi Eliyahu Drbermadiker Passes Away in Jerusalem

Rabbi Eliyahu Drbermadiker, a distinguished and respected figure within the Baal Shem Tov Hasidic community in Jerusalem, passed away at the age of 72 after a recent rapid decline in health. Born in 1954, he was the son of the legendary synagogue official Rabbi Ze'ev (Volol) Drbermadiker, who served the Baal Shem Tov dynasty with great dedication for decades. Rabbi Eliyahu was also a descendant of Rabbi Levi Yitzchak of Berditchev, a renowned Jewish leader.

He married the daughter of Rabbi Yechezkel Toyzig, author of "Tiferet Yechezkel," and lived for many years on Yona Street in Jerusalem. Known for his humility and avoidance of public recognition, Rabbi Drbermadiker was a deeply learned Torah scholar and served for many years as a respected examiner of yeshiva and Talmud Torah students, evaluating thousands of young men with kindness and patience.

He raised a large family of 13 children, many of whom are engaged in Torah study and hold significant religious and communal roles. Among his sons is Rabbi Yechezkel Drbermadiker, a leading rabbi of the Baal Shem Tov Hasidim and community rabbi in Modi'in Illit and the Hasidic community in the Soferim complex. In a poignant coincidence, on the day of Rabbi Eliyahu's passing, his son Rabbi Shimon was scheduled to perform his son's brit milah, blending mourning with celebration.
