IDF Kills Hamas Platoon Commander Leading Tunnel Rehabilitation in Gaza

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) conducted a targeted strike on Saturday in the Deir al-Balah area of the Gaza Strip, killing Sharif Al-Hasanat, a platoon commander in the Deir al-Balah battalion of Hamas's military wing. According to an IDF spokesperson, Al-Hasanat was actively involved throughout the conflict in efforts to rehabilitate Hamas's underground tunnel network. Recently, he had been advancing terrorist plans against Israeli forces and civilians, posing an immediate threat that the IDF aimed to neutralize.

This strike is part of a series of recent targeted killings by the IDF aimed at eliminating threats in Gaza. The IDF Southern Command forces remain deployed in the area under existing agreements and continue operations to remove all threats. These operations include sealing tunnels and eliminating additional militants. In recent days, the IDF has killed several senior Hamas commanders, including one who held hostages and participated in their release ceremonies.

Alongside these strikes, the Southern Brigade and the Yahalom unit are actively sealing underground routes to dismantle the terror organizations' tunnel network. The IDF's operational activities persist despite the ceasefire agreement, focusing on militants who pose immediate dangers to Israeli forces and civilians. Last week, a Hamas explosive device detonated within the northern Gaza "yellow line" area, which the IDF classified as a violation by the terror group.
