IDF Kills Hamas Platoon Commander Leading Tunnel Reconstruction in Deir al-Balah

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced the targeted killing of Sharif Alhasanat, a Hamas platoon commander in the Deir al-Balah battalion, during an operation in the Deir al-Balah area of the Gaza Strip. Alhasanat was identified as a direct threat to IDF forces operating in the region and was eliminated in a precise strike on Saturday night.

According to the IDF spokesperson, Alhasanat played a central role throughout the conflict in leading efforts to rebuild Hamas's underground tunnel network and infrastructure, exploiting various periods during the war to restore these strategic assets. Recently, he also attempted to orchestrate terror attacks against Israeli military personnel and civilians, which elevated his threat level.

This killing is part of a series of focused IDF operations targeting senior Hamas militants in Gaza over the past week. These include the elimination of a senior Islamic Jihad commander who infiltrated Kibbutz Be'eri and another militant who attacked Nir Oz during the Simchat Torah massacre. The IDF Southern Command remains deployed in the area under existing agreements and continues operations aimed at neutralizing threats to Israeli forces and civilians, specifically preventing Hamas from restoring its military capabilities.

The ongoing military campaign in Gaza seeks to dismantle Hamas's operational infrastructure and prevent the group from regaining strength through tunnel reconstruction or other means.
