Father of Terrorist Who Killed Israeli Civilians Killed in Jenin Operation

In a nighttime operation in Jenin on Friday, Israeli forces killed Fathi Hazem, the father of Raad Hazem, who carried out a deadly shooting attack on Dizengoff Street in Tel Aviv on April 7, 2022. According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Fathi Hazem attempted to stab soldiers during the raid and was shot dead. The attack by Raad Hazem resulted in the deaths of three Israelis: Tomer Morad, Barak Lofen, and Itamar Magini, and injured 15 others.

Tomer Morad's sister, Tal Morad, expressed that the killing of Fathi Hazem does not close the painful chapter for her family, as her brother’s loss remains unresolved. She shared a poignant account of her mother’s dream about Tomer shortly before hearing the news of the operation. Tal emphasized her relief that no Israeli soldiers were harmed during the raid and voiced sorrow that no targeted killing can restore her brother’s life.

Raad Hazem was killed by security forces after a nine-hour manhunt following the attack. His father, Fathi Hazem, had previously publicly vowed to continue the struggle and called for the liberation of Al-Aqsa Mosque. Israeli forces demolished Raad Hazem’s home in Jenin months after the attack, which led to clashes and injuries.

Tal Morad highlighted the ongoing cycle of violence fueled by hatred and expressed skepticism that such killings change the broader reality. She called for a future where families do not suffer such losses and stressed that the memory of her brother remains vivid years after the attack. She recalled that Tomer would have said about his attacker’s father, "Every dog has its day."
