Stolen Car Driver Crashes Ariel Police Checkpoint, Suspect Arrested After Police Fire
On Thursday, police officers from the Ariel station fired shots at a stolen vehicle that had broken through a police checkpoint in the city. According to the police, the driver attempted to escape by crashing through the checkpoint and tried to run over an officer. The suspect then fled recklessly toward the Palestinian village of Salfit. Police pursued the vehicle and fired at its tires, injuring the suspect, who received medical treatment at the scene before being evacuated.
Separately, the Northern District Prosecutor's Office filed serious charges against three members of an assassination cell linked to a northern crime organization. The indictment relates to the double murder of contractor Marwan Abu Shaheen (52) from Buq'ata and Saada Saada (56) from Hurfeish, which occurred in June in northern the Golan Heights. The accused are Ayman Ibrahim (43) from Sajur, Said Madah (28) from Samia, and Ronen Araida (19) from Kiryat Shmona. Araida faces an additional charge of attempted murder in Yirka. The indictments followed a complex undercover investigation by the Northern District Central Unit. The double murder happened on June 19 around noon after a short-range shooting at a vehicle in Buq'ata. Abu Shaheen was the intended target, while Saada was an unintended victim who was killed in the incident.
