Israeli Animal Welfare Groups Launch Support Package for First 100 Dog Adopters

In response to a nearly 50% decline in dog adoptions over six years and a 30% return rate of adopted dogs, Israeli animal welfare organizations "Let the Animals Live" and Biopet have introduced a new initiative called "Adopt with Peace of Mind." The program offers the first 100 families who adopt a dog a comprehensive support package valued at 5,240 shekels. This package includes vaccinations and preventive treatments worth 660 shekels, up to four veterinary visits valued at 600 shekels, six bags of dog food worth 1,680 shekels, and four in-home training sessions totaling 1,400 shekels.

The initiative aims to reduce the return rate of adopted dogs to 8-10% by easing the initial financial and practical burdens on new dog owners. Many dogs up for adoption have never lived in a home environment and are unfamiliar with collars or leash walking, making the transition challenging for families. The program also seeks to lower the costs associated with medical care, food, and training during the critical early period after adoption.

The project will launch on August 26, 2026, International Dog Day, with an adoption event at Melamedovitch Park in Merom Neve, Ramat Gan, from 17:30 to 19:30. The event is organized in cooperation with Ramat Gan's Environmental Unit and the city's youth center, "The Second Floor." From that day, adoptions will also be available at the "Let the Animals Live" shelter in Kfar Rut, the organization's clinics, and the rehabilitation project at Hermon Prison. All dogs available for adoption are listed on the organization's website and social media channels.
