Shalom Leon, father of Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Leon, passed away at the age of 92 on Wednesday at Ichilov Hospital. His funeral is scheduled for Thursday at the Givatayim Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest. The Leon family will observe the traditional seven-day mourning period (shiva) in Jerusalem.
The Jerusalem Municipality expressed condolences to Mayor Moshe Leon and his family, with city council members, the city administration, and employees sharing in their grief. Shalom Leon was a member of a family originating from Thessaloniki and belonged to the generation that established their home in Israel with faith, tradition, humility, and hard work.
Throughout his life, he combined manual labor with a long-standing tradition of cantorial music and was a central and beloved figure in his family. Together with his late wife Hannah, he raised a family grounded in values of dedication, responsibility, love for the people and the land, and commitment to Jewish tradition.
