Rami Levi’s Father Mordechai Passes Away at 96, Former Lehi Fighter and Jerusalem Pioneer
Mordechai Avod Levi, father of businessman Rami Levi, passed away at the age of 96 after collapsing at his home. The Levi family announced his death with deep sorrow, describing him as a righteous, upright, and God-fearing man. Mordechai was born into a Kurdish family from Urfa, Turkey, which immigrated to Jerusalem. His grandfather was among the founders of the historic Nahalat Zion neighborhood in Jerusalem.
In his youth, Mordechai was an active fighter in the Lehi underground movement. He and his wife, Yaffa, devotedly raised their six children together. Mordechai’s funeral is scheduled for Friday at 3:30 PM at Har HaMenuchot cemetery in Givat Shaul, departing from the Sephardic funeral home near the right checkpoint. The family will sit shiva at the Shaarei Rachamim synagogue on Arad Street 20 in the Malha neighborhood of Jerusalem.
The family expressed their grief in the obituary, calling Mordechai "a righteous, perfect, and upright man, God-fearing," and concluded with the traditional blessing, "May his soul be bound up in the bond of life."
